Beside Forever by Suradej Chuephanich
I am going on vacation in two days - the first time with my wife for quite some time, and with 200+ incoming emails each day I am concerned that I will come back to an unmanangeable inbox with unmanageable expectations. I have always tried to make myself available, subject to spending no more than three hours a day clearing email, but this breaks down when I am on vacation.
An out of office notice is required.
But what format? I want to say: “I am out of the office, please email me when I am back”. But some messages are urgent and others can be handled by my amazingly able assistant. So, I think I am going to go with a variant of:
“Sorry! I am on vacation. I rarely take vacation. I receive hundreds of emails each day and am unlikely to address these emails until I am back. If this is something that can wait then please re-send when I am back, as it will get to the top of my inbox. If this is to schedule a meeting then please reach out to my assistant. If this is otherwise so urgent that you need to reach me immediately, then please email me at johnisreallyonvacationbutyouneedtoreachhim@ffvc.com"
Any suggestions would be appreciated in the comment section below.
